Research

Preprints/Publications

  • D. Bullach, M. Hofer: On trivial zeroes of Euler systems for Gm (preprint)
  • M. Hofer, S. Kleine On the Gross order of vanishing conjecture for large vanishing orders (accepted for publication at Monatshefte für Mathematik)
  • M. Hofer: On the Iwasawa-theoretic Mazur-Rubin-Sano conjecture for imaginary quadratic fields (no longer intended for publication as it is now a proper subset of On trivial zeroes of Euler systems for Gm)
  • W. Bley, M. Hofer: Construction of elliptic p-units accepted for publication in "Development of Iwasawa theory
    - The Centennial of K. Iwasawa's Birth" in Advanced Studies in Pure Mathematics 86

Invited Talks

  • Oberseminar Arithmetische und Algebraische Geometrie - Universität München, (November 2019)
  • Oberseminar des Essener Seminar für Algebraische Geometrie und Arithmetik - Universität Essen (July 2019)
  • 'Groups and Representation Theory'- TU Kaiserslautern (May 2019)
  • Seminar der Forschergruppe 'Symmetrie, Geometrie und Arithmetik'- Universität Heidelberg (November 2018)
  • Pure Mathematics Seminar - University of Exeter (March 2018)

Research Interests

  • Iwasawa theory
  • Equivariant Tamagawa Number Conjecture
  • Gross-Kuz'min conjecture
  • Elliptic Units
  • Stark's Conjecture and its refinements
  • and computational aspects of the above

As part of the introduction to my dissertation I have written the text "A short, subjective history of number theory - from Fermat to the eTNC". In this text I try to explain the above-mentioned research topics to non-experts readers and highlight some of the historical developments leading to these ideas.

Theses

  • Elliptic p-units and the equivariant Tamagawa Number Conjecture, Dissertation, 2018.
  • Equivalent formulations of the ETNC for certain biquadratic extensions, Master's thesis, 2014.
  • A survey of quantum algorithms for problems in algebraic number theory, Bachelor's thesis, 2012.
