About the Location

The Chiemsee is the largest lake in Bavaria. Fraueninsel is the smaller of the two major islands on the Chiemsee, and houses the Benedictine nunnery Frauenwörth (built in 782) as well as a small village. The nuns make a liquor called Klosterlikör.

Travel Advice

In case you travel by car note that cars are not permitted on the island. Parking is possible near the village Gstadt. From there you can take a boat to Fraueninsel.

Otherwise, take a train to Prien am Chiemsee. The distance between the station and the harbour Stock is two kilometers. Take a taxi, a bus, or the historic train named Chiemseebahn (which is not to be confused with the Chiemgaubahn!). Finally, take a boat to Fraueninsel.

Please check out the timetable for the boat.

Here you can find some more detailed timetables:

Later connections do not make sense. Coming from Munich airport you better change train at München Ost (East) rather than at München Hauptbahnhof (central station).
