Zusammenfassung: The number eight is highly significant in both algebra and topology, as witnessed by the resources on the website http://www.maths.ed.ac.uk/~aar/eight.htm The talk will concentrate on the signature modulo 8 in the algebra of quadratic forms and the geometry of manifolds.
