Galois representations and automorphic forms
Zusammenfassung: The $L$-function of an algebraic variety $X$ over a number field is a Dirichlet series that encodes a great deal of information about the arithmetic properties of $X$. The $L$-function of an automorphic representation is a Dirichlet series that has excellent analytic properties. Among other consequences of the Langlands conjectures are an identification of the Dirichlet series of algebraic varieties with certain Dirichlet series of automorphic representations. Identifications of this kind have been proved in increasing generality. I will recall the general framework of the Langlands program, in the setting of representations of Galois groups, and will report on some recent progress, in particular on recent joint work with Lan, Taylor, and Thorne.
