Am Freitag, 23. Oktober 2009, um 16 Uhr c.t. spricht

Prof. Dr. Nicolas Monod
(École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne )

im Hörsaal A027 über das Thema

Bounded cohomology (following Gromov)

Zusammenfassung: Some cohomological invariants are "bounded" in a very natural sense -- a discovery going back at least to a 1958 paper by Milnor. However, trying to turn this phenomenon into a theory of "bounded cohomology" leads to many surprises. Gromov's 1982 article has opened a Pandora box by linking bounded cohomology to volume, analytical group theory, etc. Since then, many applications have been found, notably in rigidity theory. We shall present a few angles of a panorama.
