Arriving at Munich airport

In order to make your way into the city after arriving at the airport, it's probably best to take the suburban train (S-Bahn) which run every 10 minutes (You can take both, S8 or S1). The train station is underneath the airport central area (Z), just follow the signs showing a white "S" in a circle with green background. The trip into town will take approximately 45 minutes. You can descend either at station Marienplatz or at station Karlsplatz.
Ticket: We recommend to buy a blue strip card (blaue Streifenkarte, 15 DM) at a vending machine and to cancel 8 strips for getting to any place in the center.

Subway and S-Bahn-maps as well as a very good information system that chooses your best possible way is provided by the MVV itself.

Getting to the Mathematical Institute

The Mathematical Institute is at Theresienstraße 39. You can take any S-Bahn to Karlsplatz, then Tram 27 (going towards Petuelring), and get off at station Pinakothek (third station).

Getting to Hotel Savoy

Hotel Savoy is at Amalienstr. 25. You can take any S-Bahn to Marienplatz, then U3/U6 to Odeonsplatz (Exit Oskar-von-Miller-Ring). Follow Ludwigstraße 300 mtrs to the north (up to Theresienstraße at the left side) and Theresienstraße up to Amalienstraße.

In order to get from the Hotel to the Mathematical Institute just follow Theresienstaße 300 mtrs to the west.

Arriving at Munich Hauptbahnhof

If you arrive by train at München Hauptbahnhof we recommend to take any S-Bahn or U5 to Karlsplatz (and then Tram 27 to get to the Mathematical Institute, see above) or U5 to Odeonsplatz for getting to Hotel Savoy. At Odeonsplatz take exit "Odeonsplatz, Briennerstraße", follow Ludwigstraße to the north, cross Oskar-von-Miller-Ring, and turn left at Theresienstraße.
Ticket: Kurzstreckenkarte (1.80 DM).
The costs for a taxi are approximately 12 DM.

Getting together

On Thursday, November 4, 7.30 p.m. there will be an informal get-together in the Max-Emanuel-Brauerei, Adalbertstr. 33 (near the Mathematical Institute). You can get there by foot (if coming from Hotel Savoy), by subway U3/6 (Universität) or by Trambahn 27 (Nordendstr.).
