2 Overview

The lecture is divided into a physics and a mathematics part. The physics part of the lecture will given by Prof. Dr. H. Ruhl and the mathematics part by Dr. D.-A. Deckert. The mathematical part will focus on the precise problems caused by the ultraviolet and infrared divergences due to the photons as well as the ultraviolet divergence due to the electrons. Depending on time and interest we may discuss rigorous advances in the UV problem of external field QED setting or the origin of the UV problem of the photons in the classical counterpart of the theory. The physics part will introduce and elaborate on a transport equation framework for QED. Despite the mentioned infinities and in certain regimes it allows to study the dynamics of QED beyond perturbative scattering theory.
