Herbert Spohn, "Radiative friction: a case study"

We consider a charge coupled to the Maxwell field and subject to a uniform external magnetic filed. It is expected that, after many revolutions, the charge comes to rest. Dirac (1938) and Landau&Lifshitz (1952) proposed effective equations of motion for the charge. We discuss their status and use a simplified model to argue that all "derivations" miss a crucial element.
